Dass Solicitors Secure Acquittal in Largest Cannabis Factory

City of liverpool
Dass Solicitors successfully represented the main defendant in one of the largest cannabis cultivation cases.

In all, seven defendants faced five counts alleging that they conspired together to produce cannabis.

Dass Solicitors client also faced six counts of assisting unlawful immigration (in relation to the co-accused).

This case came about as a result of Operation Flinders, which was a joint investigation by Merseyside Police and the UKBA into the production of cannabis in the City of Liverpool and the use of a workforce of illegal immigrants brought in to cultivate the cannabis.

The operation uncovered five commercial scale cannabis factories in the operation in North Liverpool, with approximately 3,500 cannabis plants with a total potential street value of over £2 million. This was one of the biggest recent cultivation cases.

This case involved police surveillance lasting for twelve months. The observations were supported by CCTV recovered by the Police from various locations and from the banks, and included a number of vehicles.

The Prosecution case was in three parts. Firstly the year-long police surveillance, secondly what was found at the cannabis factories including forensic evidence and telephone mapping and, thirdly, the interviews of the defendants with the police.

Each part was thoroughly tested in court and explained to the Jury who delivered their unanimous not guilty verdicts in respect of all counts.
